There have been accusations and counter accusations following the ethno-religious, etc., crisis which saw over 100 people killed by suspected Armed Fulani herdsmen in Plateau state. While some say the attack was a reprisal attack due to the attacks on Fulani indigenes and their cattle in the area, others are arguing that Fulani herdsmen raided them just to kill the villagers and steal their goods. These unfortunate incidents allegedly led to a full-blown tribal, religious, farmers, herdsmen, etc., clashes in Plateau South Senatorial District.
Some volunteer members of Muslims Against Terror/Nigerian Civilian Vigilante Force a.k.a. “Civilian-JTF” (Yakubu Yakx, MUSA MUHAMMAD, et al) of the Zone reported and documented on the Plateau killings in the month of June 2018, and they blamed the security operatives for doing nothing to prevent these attacks.
We brought notice of a security report, that some Berom youths, thugs, in Barkin Ladi local government area and environs always laid ambush on the highways and give their allies details of vehicles conveying Fulani men or anybody that looks like them taking their cows to the popular Kara (Cow Market) in Bukuru (Jos South L.G.A) once they pass through any of the two routes going from Mangu, Pankshin, Bokkos and other L.G.A.s through Berom, they armed Berom youths, thugs will block them, lynch them and rustle their cows.
The armed suspected Berom youths; thugs, have made it so difficult that no Fulani man can drive a pickup van with Cows in the truck and pass Via Kassa, Helpang, Mararraban foron, Marraban Jamala, Anguldior, alternatively, through Nafang, Fan, Bisichi, foron and Du villages and this has made it difficult for people to pass through that area unhurt or harmed. The hatred is too much and incomprehensible.
Below are some unfortunate events, which took place, all within the month of June, 2018, in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, and its environs, in Plateau State.
- On the 8th day of June, four (4) young Fulani men coming back from Kara cattle market in Bukuru were allegedly shot/killed by Berom tribe, immediately after Kassa Hill military check point; less than 2 kilometers away from the check point;

- Over 300 Cows were rustled between Fan, Dorowa and Jong villages of Barkin Ladi L.G.A and Kadunu/Langal villages of Mangu L.G.A, when the military were allegedly sent to rescue and recover the Cows they received strong resistance from the armed Berom Cow rustlers with even reports of some security men losing their lives up to date and have not been recovered.

3. On the 12th day of June at around 8:00 pm, some Fulani people of Quanpan L.G.A of Plateau State coming back from Bukuru Kara market were shot at Kassa hill before Barkin Ladi L.G.A. Secretariat, but unfortunately, one of them lost his life.

- On June 13th, a minor; Jaafar Salihu, herding his parents Cows, was killed at Nding village, around Kassa Hill and they removed his head of which, it has not been recovered till date, and was buried like that.
- A day after sallah on the 16th day of June, 2018, at about 14:00 hours some Hausa Boys of Barkin Ladi town driving a Vectra Opel vehicle with Registration Number – JJN54CF, heading to Mangu L.G.A narrowly escaped death with minor and major injuries and the car wrecked, as Berom youths launched an attack on them in front of the military check point.
- Birom youths attack and killed Muslim faithfuls who were travelling for the sallah celebration on the 14th day of June, 2018. This happened during the street attack. They can be heard saying “kafasasu” you should open (their body with knife) while the other guy is suggesting they should be left as such.

What is their offence? Answer: They are Muslims and the suspected Berom youths want to avenge an attack on some villages made by Fulani herders.
- Then the last aggression took place on the 21st day of June, 2018, at about 6:00 pm, some Fulani men Bala, Lawal and Ibrahim Kuwait, on their way coming back from Kara market in Bukuru were shot dead by Armed Berom youths and their vehicle was set ablaze at helpang village, precisely, inside the railway roundabout.
- On Saturday 23rd June 2018, the people of Mangu blocked the highway and barred everybody from passing until justice was done to one of their men that was killed in a Berom Community between Dorowa village and Mangu Hale, until his demise, he was a butcher went to collect his money from one of his customers he supplied meat. He was simply killed because he is a Muslim, is he a herdsman?
- Also on Saturday 23rd June, 2018, in Brakin Lade local government area and its environs at about 1.00pm in the afternoon, and lasted still about 8.00pm. Some suspected “Armed Fulani Herdsman” killed Plateau Mourners who were returning from a funeral service of a clergy father “Baba Jakawa” at Gidin Akwati, Gashis District. About 120 people allegedly killed. The suspected “Armed Fulani Herdsman” ambushed the sympathizers on their way back from the burial, attack and killed 34 persons 15 houses burnt from Nekan village, 39 other 18 house were also burnt from Kufang and 47 people from Ruku village while many others are allegedly missing in the bushes. Meanwhile Plateau government imposed curfew on 3 local government areas (6am-6pm).
We blame the men and officers of “Operation Safe Heaven” for their poor handling of the following issues that took place in Barkin Ladi and environs. Had it been they acted promptly, these avoidable incidents would’ve been averted.
We also call on the security to be up and doing; they should deploy modern techniques in managing attacks and counter attacks, if not, the carnage will probably continue until the realities on ground are rewritten to reflect the reality of modern war.
OBSERVATION/RECOMMENDATIONS
The enemies of peace and Nigeria are at it again. These unfortunate incidents led to a full-blown tribal/religious crisis in Plateau South Senatorial District.
We observe that, in the past decade a lot of crisis erupted in Plateau State, people have moved on in some of the areas. But why are we still having crisis that is leading to loss of lives and properties destroyed in Berom land.
Governor Simon Lalong and president Muhammadu Buhari should deal with these issues decisively.
The Nigerian security outfits; Police, DSS, etc., should mount a checkpoints or build a unit at the aforementioned villages in Barkin Ladi and its environs to checkmate the movement of people around and, we urge the government of Plateau State, federal government and all Nigerian security divisions to swiftly apprehend and punish all of the perpetrators and deploy forces to bring an end of these killing in Barkin Ladi local government area and its environs.
On behalf of Muslims Against Terror /Nigerian Civilian Vigilante Force “Civilian-JTF, other Muslims and brothers in faith etc., condemn such evil acts and atrocities being committed by the suspected Berom youths and accomplices and, the suspected armed Fulani herdsmen in Barkin Ladi local government area and its environs in Plateau state, Nigeria.

We pray that the Almighty Allah (SWT) will receive the souls of those killed in the incident and, grant the injured a speedy recovery in the name of Allah (SWT) our lord we pray (Amen).
Our hearts are with the families that lost their loved ones and may their souls rest in perfect peace, Amin.
We pray for Peace, Love, and Security to return to Plateau, Benue, Borno, etc., and to the rest of all Muslim Ummah and, the world in general, this year and beyond, in the name of Allah (SWT) our lord we pray (Amin).
May Allah (SWT) guide them and protect them (Amin).
